Guest Bathroom Update

Back in September when it was it was too hot to be outside in Sacramento, I decided to tackle our guest bathroom, aka, the boy’s bathroom.

In 2013 we painted the cabinet, walls and took down the glass sliding door attached to the bathtub/shower and the large mirror. Since then we haven’t done much other than hanging a shelf over the toilet, updated the light fixture, added some art and towel bars.

First I painted the bathroom white. I carried over the same H20 Blue from our previous house because I couldn’t choose a new color fast enough and I thought it would make the boys feel more comfortable in our new house if they were surrounded by familiar walls. I painted both bathrooms and the boy’s bedrooms in this blue and it turns out you CAN get really sick of a color! Also, the darker the darn paint color the more coats it will take to cover it, damnit to hell.

After I finished painting the walls I really started to question this project. Was I really going to like it? Should I just wait till we can afford to pay someone to redo for us? The self-doubt can really get to you. I took a break and came back to it and powered through and I am so glad I did.

After paining I changed up the floor. I used the Floor POPS! peel & stick vinyl floor tiles in Gothic to cover up the stained and broken tiles on the floor. Eventually, we would love to remove all the tile and bathroom cabinet and start over, but this was an easy and affordable way to refresh the space.

Pedar had antique skis in the garage and I pulled them out and used them as art. I also found a great picture of Homewood ski mountain and created a wrapped canvas for art.

Finally, I painted the bathroom cabinet with navy chalk paint. I added new towels and a shower curtain and the refresh was done. The boys love it and I love the change.
